Hello

I am a painter of realistic portraits, landcapes and still life artworks. Acrylic paint is the main medium I use. I create unique portraits for people and families, landscapes to celebrate the great outdoors and still lifes of maybe precious or personal objects for collectors and private clients.

My works are about not taking things for granted. Small pleasures elevate us. Its facinating how just looking at something can change our state of being. 
I love detail and texture in the world around us. 

I was very short sighted for most of my life and have subsequently had vision problems and (some temporary) vision loss. As this could happen again a part of my style is down to a feeling that realistic painting is like preserving vision and making the most of what I’ve seen. My style is a way of showing appreciation for the subject at hand and the wonderful gift of vision itself.

Statement

My paintings show my love of detail, texture, colour and light. These are the things that really engage my senses. 

Eyesight problems have led me to appreciate sight and my art is a way of preserving what I see as well as often highlighting the interestingness of overlooked scenes or objects that our modern world doesn't give us time to reflect on. 

Acrylic paint is my main medium, but my techniques can vary a little and I often experiment. I usually work on the canvas as a whole. Using thin layers and building an image from vague shapes to a defined finished piece.

Biography

Gavin Mundy is a London-based painter. He revels in detail and the effects of light and loves the qualities of acrylic paint with which he paints most of his work. 

Gavin has experienced eyesight problems and his art is partly a way to preserve what he has seen and even celebrate the sense of vision, but it also often asks us to appreciate the overlooked everyday things modern life and adulthood doesn't give us time for. 

While trained in graphic design he taught himself many of the fine art techniques he uses. 

His realistic style is inspired by a variety of sources from great artists of the past to film special effects artists of today. 

Awards include Still Life Artist of The Year 2016 from the SAA. 

Gavin's art is owned by private and corporate clients around the globe and he has exhibited in the UK, France and the USA.

OTHER INFO

Gavin has conducted workshops and demonstrations for Sutton Arts Council and The Big Draw and is a regular at Urban Sketchers drawing days. 

He is also a frequent participant at his local artists open days every year with Carshalton Artists 

Gavins work is held in private and corporate collections in the UK, Canada, the United States, Germany, and New Zealand.
